Lakshmipur district does not have much industry due to its geographical location as compared to other districts of Bangladesh. Lack of communication system and necessary infrastructure has hampered the industrial development of the district. At present small scale industries like plastic, wax, shoes, tar etc. are developing here. Most of the people (about 80%) are fishermen, so some icebergs have formed here.
In terms of industry, Lakshmipur has been neglected and backward from the past. Although the district has a tradition of public resources, it goes without saying that there are no public or private initiatives in industrialization. Many residents of this district have set up large scale industries in different parts of the country. But the people of this district are wandering around the country and abroad in search of work. Despite so much reluctance and neglect, some industrial factories have been set up.
